The
six remaining teams traveled north from Rome, where the detour
presented the choice of riding or building a donkey. The Double
U-Turn played a prominent role in this leg, strengthening the bonds
between some teams and elevating the conflicts between others. The
roadblock required one team member to hand-copy a manuscript page,
pre-Gutenberg style. At the Piazza del Duomo, the Pit Stop for this
leg, the only thing missing was a formal declaration of war as the
field was reduced to five teams.
