As a dental industry whistleblower, I've witnessed firsthand how this unproven test is being weaponized against patients across America. Claiming to detect early-stage periodontal disease by measuring enzyme levels, the AMMP-8 test sounds impressive and scientific. The reality? It's a sophisticated sales tool designed to convert healthy patients into treatment candidates overnight.
The scam works with elegant simplicity. Corporate chains offer the test for free during your first visit, establishing trust while gathering baseline data. When your results inevitably show "elevated levels," suddenly your routine cleaning transforms into an expensive periodontal treatment plan – complete with scaling, root planing, medicated rinses, and multiple follow-up appointments. Six months later, they charge you for another test that typically shows little improvement, perpetuating the treatment cycle.
What dental chains won't tell you is that these tests lack FDA approval for dental diagnostics. In my most shocking discovery, we tested the mouth rinse solution alone – without any human saliva whatsoever – and it returned a positive result with a concerning marker score of 13. This isn't science; it's a carefully calibrated sales funnel.
