It was directed by Clay Kaytisand Fergal Reilly (in their directorial debuts), produced by John Cohen and Catherine Winder, and written by Jon Vitti. The film was animated by Sony Pictures Imageworks, and stars Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Danny McBride, Maya Rudolph, Kate McKinnon, Sean Penn, Tony Hale, Keegan-Michael Key, Bill Hader and Peter Dinklage. It was released in the United States on May 20, 2016, received mixed reviews from critics and has grossed over $283 million.
