In this episode of The Daily Weekly, we explore the housing crisis in Ann Arbor – why rent is so expensive, and why students scramble to secure housing. We strove to figure out what is causing such high demand and what students should know about the housing crisis.
We first took the pulse of the student body through interviewing students in the Michigan Union to hear their thoughts on housing and rent in Ann Arbor. We then sat down with Zachariah Farah, a member of the Ann Arbor Tenants Union, who gave some insight into what the Ann Arbor Tenants Union does as well as what renters should be looking out for. Finally, we talked to Jefferey Ward, a lecturer in the University of Michigan economics department, to talk more about what caused the high rent prices in the first place and what can be done to bring them down.
Tune in as we explore the housing crisis and its impact on students here at the University of Michigan.
