This fall I’m teaching a catechetical series in the context of my local church that explores the Apostles’ Creed. In a special potluck and discussion evening, we looked at the line, “he descended to the dead.” Engaging the works of Matthew Emerson and Michael Bird, we spent the evening exploring the questions, “does the descent of Jesus to the dead matter theologically and is it biblical?”
