As more and more heresy slipped into the early church, one of the tools that the leaders developed was what we now call The Apostles Creed. In just 105 words, the early church fathers captured the essence of what the apostles had written and taught and provided an answer that could ground the church in truth and guard the church from error. It's still useful for that today.
