Realizing standard procedure is useless against the adaptive threat, Flicker makes the decision to violate archival protocol. He uses a highly saturated, pure red ribbon, saved for its intense, uncompromised color, to pry open a maintenance vent leading deep beneath the archives. They discover the shaft smells of burnt sugar and ozone, confirming this breach connects to the wider subterranean threat. Flicker descends first into the unknown depth using the bright ribbon as a lifeline, determined to confront the source of the conceptual drain.
