Stock Market Investing

The start to the year is in line with expectations after a big Q4

Weakness down to the key locations of either the 25 or 50 day ema is the reasonable range for a correction

A break below Stops on a weekly basis would require a rethink

For now the probabilities favor a shakeout & not the end of the rally or start of something more nefarious

We raised cash on 12/28 & continued thru yesterday but at the same time began increasing our SPY QQQ exposure

Biotech/Pharma continues to be a beacon of strength

Energy is showing signs of a perfect reward vs risk entry point 

And for the 1st time in many moons, we are Long Cannabis!?!?!?

Risk Monitor [Market] commentary: The trend is our friend; Confluence/liquidity the trump card 

Here are the sobering facts that has made me think all weekend…

QQQ up 55.53% in 2023 meaning QLD [2X] was up over 110%!?!?!SPY up 26.56% in 2023 meaning SSO [2X] was up over 52%!?!?!If our portfolios were not up by these amounts, either with or without 2X leverage, then we are overthinking the investment process and must do better in 2024.I’m guilty of overthinking and will do everything in my power in 2024 and beyond to correct this weakness.

Highlighted Action: The importance of working together!

Wanted to take this moment to thank all armrInsiders for helping make 2023 a profitable year for the ARMR Virtual Hedge Fund.

Working together in a community, all pulling on the same oar, trumps trading in a vacuum & makes us all more profitable in obvious ways and in ways we may not readily see.

ARMR Research: The trend is indeed our friend and until the 50 day moving average is broken on SPY QQQ IWM DIA ARKK etc the Risk Monitor will remain primarily Green. We may denote moments of weakness with a change to Yellow but this will be more a sign of a buying opportunity approaching then of an imminent collapse into Red action.

Risk Monitor [Market] commentary: End of year drift higher underway but watch out for 1st 2 weeks of 2024

All is well with the advance as the expected drift higher this week began well with leadership from Small Caps [IWM]Often when markets run hot into year end the 1st 2 weeks of Jan. can be dicey.Investors can on occasion hold off on booking gains until the new year for tax reasons so early Jan. can see some aggressive selling.This action would be a welcome pullback/consolidation that would set up the next buy point.For now, that means avoid aggressive new investments and/or shift some capital to sectors just beginning an advance from a strong base.Never chase extended stocks, ever, but especially at this point in the cycleAs you manage risk and book gains at targets or get Stopped out on positions building up some cash would be a reasonable approach.The market rally will take a break and being ready to take advantage of that instead of being controlled by will be the difference.

Consolidations usually last more than a day but this power trend is...powerful

Markets gapped higher and then closed the gap testing the lows of big shakeout Wednesday.

At 1:30 I shared this message on the ARMR Trading Desk, "On an $SPXL Day Trade from 1:30sih. Question: Will today be the reciprocal of yesterday's trading? 2:30 marked the beginning on the aggressive selling [yesterday]. Will 2:30 be the beginning of the buy program today?" The answer was, of course, Yes, and we nailed the rally all the way to the close We are looking for strength to continue into the holiday weekend as is usually the case.

However, read & react is our mantra. Usually a big sell off day like Wednesday is followed by more selling/consolidation. Due to the "power trend" strength of this Q4 run I lean toward more sideways action than aggressive downside but head on a swivel as coach used to say.

Risk Monitor [Market] commentary: By all accounts a shakeout was required 

Careful, step to your left, the sky is falling. So many Chicken Littles come out of the woodwork when a normal and necessary sell off / consolidation occurs during a Bull market Yesterday is no different. They love to wave in front of you any number of "overbought" oscillators as an excuse the end is near What they fail to tell you are the following... These oscillators were overbought weeks ago at much lower prices so the value as a timing tool is useless They have been complaining about it for these said weeks making their celebration yesterday pointless "Overbought" is a condition of a Bull Market. They hover around overbought for longer than the Shorts can stay solvent  We talked about the need for the markets to consolidate over time or price & yesterday may, I stress may, have been the beginning of this necessary action in an uptrend I'm looking forward to a breather that will reset the APY & QQQ armrAlgos & allow for a follow on buy signal that will begin wave 3 End of year lack of liquidity creates days like yesterday on the up and down side so breathe, adjust / follow Stops and be ready for the next opportunity.

Stock Market Investing: Seasonality would suggest the grind higher continues

Nothing is standing in the way of a year end melt up or continued grind higher at the very least.

A rally of this strength would be described by physics as an irresistible force & only and immovable object could cause a possible pause.

You could study technical analysis for years [and I have so what I'm about to write is, in all humility, fact] & never come across the multitude of classic chart pattern breakouts occurring in multiple sectors seemingly unrelated all at once.

These price movements are happening on a canvas of a 2 year stealth Bear market. I say "stealth" because Big Cap tech & its overweighting in indexes shielded the innocent from the destruction & 80%ish drawdown in many growth stocks. But now a masterpiece of a Bull market is being painted & still I hear whining about the Magnificent 7 having too much of a pull.

So today I offer you a new name for the generals in this unfolding tsunami of a Bull market.

I say we add NFLX to the list and call it...wait for it... The Hateful 8: MSFT AAPL NVDA TSLA META AMZN GOOGL & NFLX
