Jed Cook has deserted from the army to run off and marry Della Masters. Matt and Chester are riding out, when they spot a big wagon making camp. They've lost a wheel on the wagon and are trying to fix it. They ride over to give them some help and Matt discovers that it's the army deserter, Jed Cook, from Fort Dodge.
