Welcome back to another episode of the Generations to Hunt podcast! In this episode, we had the pleasure of interviewing Tyrell, an experienced hunter from Oklahoma. Tyrell shared his journey from a young country kid with a BB gun to a seasoned bowhunter who consistently puts big bucks on the ground.

After a few years of working in the oil field, Tyrell moved to Northwest Oklahoma, where the deer hunting was much better. He had access to private land and started knocking on doors to gain permission to hunt. As he continued to hunt and learn, he realized the value of sharing information through podcasts and YouTube channels. This newfound knowledge helped him become more consistent in harvesting mature bucks.

Tyrell emphasized the importance of age when it comes to deer hunting. While he used to focus on antler size, he now prioritizes targeting the oldest bucks he can find. He believes in letting younger bucks grow and reach their full potential. Tyrell also stressed the significance of managing the doe population, as it plays a crucial role in maintaining a healthy deer herd.

When it comes to preparing for the season, Tyrell starts by scouting from the road and identifying deer movement patterns. He then transitions to shed hunting, which helps him understand how deer are traveling and using the land. He uses this information to locate bedding areas, trails, and food sources. Tyrell also utilizes trail cameras and mock scrapes to gather more data on deer movement.

During the season, Tyrell focuses on specific target bucks. He hunts strategically, considering weather conditions, scrapes, and food sources. Tyrell also mentioned his preference for hunting from a saddle, which provides him with mobility and flexibility in choosing tree stand locations.

Tyrell had an incredible season this year, harvesting 3 impressive bucks. one was a Kansas public land monster. He shared the stories behind these hunts, highlighting the importance of patience, persistence, and making the right decisions in the moment.
