British-American actress, artist, and writer Jemima Kirke joins The UNTITLED Podcast with editor-in-chief Indira Cesarine for an unfiltered conversation about creativity, identity, motherhood, and the power of speaking out. Known for her breakout role as the fearless and unpredictable Jessa Johansson on HBO’s Girls, Kirke has continued to explore layered portrayals of femininity in acclaimed performances such as Melissa in Hulu’s Conversations with Friends and Headmistress Hope Haddon in Netflix’s Sex Education.
Beyond the screen, Kirke is a RISD-trained painter whose work has been exhibited internationally, including previous solo shows at Sargent’s Daughters, which celebrated untamed expressions of femininity. She currently graces the cover of The Untitled Magazine’s launch ART EDITION, The Art of Resistance, and recently made her debut with The Untitled Space gallery in its 10th-anniversary exhibition UPRISE 2025: The Art of Resistance.
In this episode, Kirke opens up about her earliest artistic ambitions, her unexpected entry into acting, and the challenge of balancing two demanding creative careers. She discusses navigating public perceptions of being “an actress who paints,” her outspoken advocacy for reproductive rights, and how motherhood has reshaped her perspective on life and art. Kirke also reflects on her creative process, her attraction to work that provokes thought and disrupts expectations, and her commitment to making art that is deeply personal yet politically resonant.
With her signature candor and wit, Jemima reflects on what it means to create with honesty —and why now, more than ever, that matters.
