Today’s Scripture:
Psalm 23:6 KJV
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: And I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.
Having the assurance of something gives us the confidence that we are secure and we are covered. For example, when we have car insurance, it gives us the assurance that if we are in an accident, we will be covered for damages and liability, assuming you did get liability coverage as well. Assurance gives us backing. It gives us confidence in whatever we are doing because we have coverage. It gives us the certainty that we have something to cover us in case of problems. It's a guarantee, a promise, or a pledge.
God's word gives us assurance that no matter what we experience in life, we have a guarantee that his goodness and mercy will follow us. We have the assurance of God's promise, his pledge toward us that he will be with us all the days of our lives. His mercy follows us, and his mercy sustains us.
David, in this Psalm, shows confidence in his God that no matter what happens to him in life, he is assured that God's mercy and goodness will be there with him and for him. It's his assurance, his life's assurance, that God will show him mercy. As we talked about this week, God's mercy is his love, it's his protection, it's his forgiveness. David is assured that God's mercy follows him and gives him the confidence he needs to face life.
We all have different challenges that we face in life. We have disappointments, setbacks, lack, sickness, diseases, relationship issues, and financial struggles, but one thing we cannot forget in the midst of it all is that God's mercy and goodness are following us. Let's be confident today that no matter the situation we find ourselves in, God's Mercy is for us and is following us. Do not allow what you see to make you think God's not present; he's ever-present; he will not take back his word. He says his goodness and mercy follow us. That's the assurance of his mercy. We are covered, and we have liability insurance in him.
Stand in the goodness and mercy of God. They will never run out. He said all the days of my life. That means all the days that I am alive, God's goodness and mercy give me assurance as they follow me.
