It is Tuesday of the week in which Jesus will be crucified. After his joyous crowd reception and proclamation that he was Messiah, the Son of David, he had returned to the temple on Monday and cleared it of merchants. He had brought the temple to a temporary halt and chaos to call the Temple back to its true purpose. Now he has returned. The crowds of people with him and he teaches, preaches and heals them. Now a large delegation of interrogators  approach with a challenge question. In the vernacular, Who do you think you are to do what you did? Who gave you this authority?  This is the question so what is Jesus' answer?
