The Ban List - A Marvel Snap Podcast

Welcome back to the Ban List for episode 18, the monthly Marvel Snap podcast where notmydance brings on a guest (lowercase now that ItsGuestGaming is contracted with Second Dinner) to debate the systems, design, choices, and long-term frustrations that deserve a spot on the wall and to be banned!

This week, Gregor​⁠2424 is here to talk about his frustrations that he wants to bring up that he personally would like to see bettered and changed in Marvel Snap.

We discuss Gregor’s frustrations with OTA (Over The Air) Balance Updates and why he wants bigger changes that directly address problematic cards, leading to a debate about power creep and buffing older cards. Afterwards, we tackle Marvel Snap’s lacking alliance social features and discuss why the deck-building interface needs better filters and more information about your deck.

We then call out the misleading “Daily Cards” shop section and web-shop bundles that offer variants you already own without warning you. Following a discussion about inaccurate cube totals and ladder ranks, we end the conversation debating whether new cards are making older cards irrelevant by filling the same roles.

We discuss his gripes with the snapping in the game, and how it is no longer the test of skill it once was at the beginning of Marvel Snap's lifecycle. We realize that he has spent thousands of hours in this game before he calls out Conquest mode's lack of iteration, which has made it feel abandoned. Afterwards, we discuss the OTA (Over The Air) Balance Updates and why they can feel bad, and what about them should be banned. Following us learning the legalities of the "Delete Account" button, as well as finding multiple issues with different sections of the Marvel Snap in-game shop, we end the conversation discussing gripes with live chats.The goal is to continue doing these episodes, with a different creator brought on each time! We discuss his gripes with the Objectives within the game, and how it mirrors the benefits and detriments of Marvel Snap paralleling fighting games. Then we experience the first ever powerpoint on the Ban List, on the subject of why splitting cards is actually bad for the art. Somehow, a discussion about the Play button turns into an argument about cubes? Anyways, they then discuss the life system in conquest and why Gold should differ from proving grounds. They end off the episode with a the ban being held by only chance!
