The Barry & Mack Show

In this episode, Barry Wise and former OU wide receiver Damian Mackey discuss the latest buzz around quarterback John Mateer and his recovery timeline after thumb surgery.

The guys break down:
• Why the procedure was delayed and what that means for healing.
• The difference between standard recovery windows vs. an athlete’s accelerated path.
• How strength training, mobility, and swelling management factor into a quicker return.
• Potential return-to-play timelines and whether Mateer could realistically see the field early.
• How his absence – or comeback – reshapes the quarterback room and OU’s offensive outlook moving into conference play.

Barry & Mack also give their midweek thoughts on the current top teams in college football, playoff implications, and what OU needs to keep momentum going.
