I knew Kello was a legend, but little did I think we’d have so much of the bass world in common.

What a privilege and an honour to have had this chat. We dive deep into how Kello got started, and the holistic approach to music.

More importantly, we emphasise the importance of being true to oneself in the pursuit of living your passion.

Kello has a significant following, he’s dedicated, works hard, is great to watch and listen to, and even better to sit down and chat with. I felt this was almost some kind of therapy session, and although we’re globally opposite, none of this felt like we were 12,000+ kms apart.

Bass theory, reading music, playing technique…I was on the hunt to find something awesome…

In 2013 I didn’t have much mobility; this then spilled into 2014 due to a Moto X accident. That’s how I discovered UK bassist & educator Stuart Clayton and his brand — Bassline Publishing. I still use them today.

This episode is very cool; we got to discuss Stuart’s teaching background, how he started Bassline Publishing, and his approach to bass playing in general. If you’re overwhelmed by YouTube lessons and gear lists, this conversation may be of some assistance. Stuart has a minimalist approach towards gear, and shows a strong emphasis on reading, theory, and playing. 

I did some online tapping study during COVID with Stuart. Amongst my own approach, I learn from his slapping, tapping, and reading books still today.

Very stoked to release this one. I was lucky enough to meet Paul on an Australian tour in 2024 when our bands played at The Forum in Melbourne.

We instantly hit it off and became friends. His character and demeanour are unreal, and The Screaming Jets are one of the most iconic Australian rock bands.
