If I am in Christ (Romans 6), why do I still battle temptation and sin…all the time?! Why do I do the things I know I shouldn’t do, and why can’t I consistently do the things I know I should do? In Romans 7, Paul describes and explains the intense battle each and every follower of Jesus experiences as a part of the normal Christian life. This constant battle could lead us to despair, but as Paul concludes the chapter, he points us toward the victory we can experience through the indwelling and empowering Holy Spirit (Romans 8).
