Speaker: Pastor Mason Smith of Multination Church Frankfurt
Title: Blessed Are Those Who Mourn
Theme: Mourning over our sin
Sermon Scripture: Matthew 5:4 & Joel 1:13-15; 2:12-14
Opening Scripture: Psalm 51:1-12
Have you ever been heartbroken? Have you ever experienced the depths of grief coming from the loss of someone you love? At such moments of weeping and despair we often think of the words of Jesus from Matthew 5:4, “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” But is this really what Jesus had in mind? Was he referring to sorrow over our losses, or something deeper? If the Beatitudes are meant to be the spiritual qualities of a disciple, then perhaps we’ve misread Jesus’ teaching here. Let’s wrestle with this passage together!
