In november 1956 vormt John Lennon de skiffle-groep de Quarrymen, met vrienden van de Quarry Bank High School.

Op 6 juli 1957 stelt gemeenschappelijke vriend Ivan Vaughan Paul McCartney voor aan John Lennon op het St. Peter’s Church-feest in Woolton, Liverpool. Paul maakt indruk op John door zijn gitaar te stemmen.
