In this episode of The Beer Leaguer Podcast, we're breaking down seven of the most common reasons beer league hockey teams fall apart—and surprisingly few of them have much to do with what happens on the ice.
We talk about what happens when one person becomes responsible for registration, jerseys, money, scheduling and every other job nobody notices until that person stops doing it. We also talk about the dreaded attendance death spiral, why both tiny rosters and gigantic rosters can create.
The biggest theme running through all seven? Communication. Most of these problems aren't unavoidable disasters. Teams can usually see them coming—but only if players are willing to talk about them before a minor annoyance turns into the reason half the roster leaves.

Skate socks probably aren’t the first piece of hockey equipment you obsess over—and that’s exactly why we’re talking about them.
On this episode of **The Beer Leaguer Podcast**, we dig into one of the more overlooked pieces of beer league hockey gear: **cut-resistant skate socks**. They cost more than regular socks, so what are you actually getting for the extra money? Is there a meaningful difference between an older, heavy cut-resistant sock and one of the newer lightweight designs?
We look at the things that actually matter once you’re on the ice: comfort, stretch, thickness, moisture management, heat, fit, ease of getting the socks on, and—most importantly—how much protection you’re getting.

This episode is about the player every good beer league hockey team needs—and it has nothing to do with scoring goals.
If everybody on your team gets along but games still feel like you're just "show up, play, go home,” you don't necessarily have a bad team, you might just be missing the glue guy.
In this episode of the Beer Leaguer Podcast we break down how one or two people can completely change the social culture of a beer league team. Everything from organizing postgame beers to keeping the locker room positive, knowing when to chirp, and helping teammates feel like they're actually part of the group.
You don't have to be the best player. You don't even have to be particularly good at hockey. Sometimes the most valuable player is simply the one everybody notices when they aren't there.
