Pastor Josh Hall takes this Sunday before Independence Day to share a message entitled, "The Believer's Responsibility to the Government." Here he shares 4 important things that Christians can do as citizens:
1. PRAY - 1 Timothy 2:1-4
It is our responsibility to pray for our leaders. Words paul uses in this passage:
1) Supplication - pray personally, with urgency
2) Prayer - the Greek implies consistent and worshipful prayer
3) Passionately - "intercession" - as one who is in the same boat
4) With Thanksgiving
2. PAY - vv. 6 - 7
Jesus affirms - Matthes 15:15-21
3. OBEY - vv. 1 - 2
"Subject to" - meaning under authority (a military term)
1) Willingly
2) Quietly (1 Timothy 4:11-12)
3) By Participating
4) Conditionally (Acts 4:19-20) - our ultimate authority is God
4. PROCLAIM
Four ways we proclaim the Gospel:
1) Stand up for what is right (Proverbs 13:34)
2) Stay against what is wrong (Proverbs 29:2)
3) Stand with those who are oppressed (James 1:27; Proverbs 31:8-9)
4) Stand upon the Gospel
