Psalm 6 is the first of the penitential psalms (6, 32, 38, 51, 102, 130, 143). These psalms are characterized by the Psalmist crying out to God because the severity of their sin and the fear they have of God’s judgment. They also have moments of God’s mercy and grace with powerful images and moments that are tethered to the cross of Jesus Christ.

Psalm 6 moves us through this terror we experience before God and the comfort and confidence that also comes to us because of the certainty of Jesus Christ.
