Arduous
I'm only 1/3 if the way through this book and I'm struggling to continue. It may be attributed to burnout since this is the third novel that I have read by this author within the last 48hrs or it could be due to the fact that this one is not as good as the other two.
The story started off well with a murder and a scarce escape from the villain, but the meeting between the two main characters later in the book leaves much to be desired. It's unbelievable that the H is mad at the h because she hasn't come forward in regards to her mother's murder and the part her father played in it although he knows the girl was only 5 years old when it took place. I also found it disconcerting that a 21 year old man would consent to marry the 5 year old as a favor to the child's mother of which he was a friend. I understand that he would have waited until she matured, but still I found it to be creepy.
Another peeve is the over use of the word "inestimably." I'm really finding it hard to go on, but will try.
Okay, I've finished the book and have decided to give this author a break. With the first book her writing was exciting and her stories were of substance but after the third book, it seems that they all follow the same pattern. 1) Both characters have secrets that are life altering or 2) there is a misunderstanding that could be worked out with an explanation if only the characters talked to each other instead of acting on half-truths 3) I actually love that the bad guys are clearly bad guys and it's okay to dislike them b/c they possess no redeemable qualities and 4) I do like the fact that the stories are wrapped up at the end, no cliff hangers, but nonetheless the pattern becomes predictable after awhile.
I recommend this author but I found that I enjoyed Distant Thunder the best and Temptation's Kiss second best.
Great read
This was my first Lisa Bingham novel to read and I must say I really enjoy her writing. Just read a second one and now off to my third. She keeps things interesting. Strong women and strong men.
One of the best
Excellemt
All about rubies
Quite suspenseful and enjoyable. The flow is fine, keeps you reading to the end. Lisa Bingham has plotted well, keeps the theme in focus and writes with talent.
Three Stars
This book was okay but a bit bland! I probably wont look for any more of Lisa's books!
