Welcome!  The show today is from our live podcast last week.  My guest is Dr. Joel Kahn, who has practiced as a cardiologist in Detroit, MI, for 25 years.  He was born and raised in suburban Detroit and attended medical school at the University of Michigan.  He is the author of several books and is opening a gourmet, plant-based restaurant in Ferndale, MI, called Green Space Café.  The unique menu will feature Thai food, bean burgers, Indian entrees, Latino tapas, and much, much more!

Dr. Kahn coined the term “interpreventional” to describe his method of cardiology.  He is interventional, focusing on prevention of heart disease---hence, the term.  He understands the seriousness of heart disease and has devoted his life to helping prevent heart attacks through diet and education.

Dr. Kahn shares the following information in this episode:

How an article in the New England Journal of Medicine by Dr. Dean Ornish many years ago set him on the path to treating artery problems with a nutrition focus

How to encourage healthy eating diet habits in kids

How to plan plant-based meals that are filling and satisfying so that you aren’t a starving vegan!

The place of complex carbs in his plant-based diet—his recommendations may surprise you!

How to use healthy fats toward heart health, and the key IS NOT EVOO!

How elderly residents of Okinawa, Japan, prove that a heavily starch-based diet is good for you!

How numerous studies prove the success of his plant-based diet

Why you should pile on lettuce and tomato on your burger or reach for broccoli along with your pizza, that is, if you must eat “trash” foods

How unhealthy foods can affect your artery health in just minutes!

What foods/supplements he recommends for his heart disease patients

How Dr. Kahn stays on track with his personal health, even with a CRAZY schedule

How you can reverse heart disease, cancer risk, diabetes, Multiple Sclerosis, skin conditions, autoimmune diseases, and even dementia with the simple change to a plant-based diet!

The Top Six Habits you can adopt to reduce your heart attack risk!

Why ketogenic diets do NOT give the results you want!

What medical tests he recommends, including the “secret” test that can assess your risk for heart disease

“Food is medicine because food is information!”
