Welcome back to The Better Everyday Podcast where we are unlocking our best self one episode at a time!
In this emotional and vulnerable episode, Grace opens up about discovering she carries the BRCA2 gene and the difficult decisions that come with having a high risk of Breast Cancer.
After losing her mother to breast cancer at a young age, Grace recently underwent genetic testing and learned she is BRCA2 positive — meaning her chances of developing hereditary breast cancer are significantly increased. During a recent medical appointment, doctors recommended that she consider a preventative double mastectomy to lower her breast cancer risk to around 5%, along with a possible hysterectomy to reduce the risk of uterine cancer.
What followed was an overwhelming flood of fear, uncertainty, and difficult questions:
Should she get the surgery?
Should she wait?
What would recovery look like?
Would she choose reconstructive surgery?
How would this affect her mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually?
What if she never develops cancer in the first place?
Grace shares the emotional weight of facing life-changing medical decisions while also wrestling with the feeling that her entire life may need to pause during recovery. As someone passionate about growth, fitness, discipline, and becoming better every day, the thought of slowing down felt terrifying.
David steps in to remind her that strength is not found only in movement, productivity, or constant progress — but in resilience, patience, faith, and character. That even during recovery, hardship, or uncertainty, she is still becoming stronger and inspiring those around her.
This episode is for anyone facing fear, health battles, uncertainty, anxiety, or major life decisions. It is a conversation about family support, faith during hardship, mental strength, and finding hope in difficult seasons of life.
If you or someone you love has been affected by Breast Cancer, BRCA2, hereditary cancer, or preventative surgery decisions, we hope this episode brings encouragement and comfort.
