The descriptions of what Betty and Barney Hill encountered on 19th September 1961, or their recollections of events, are both strange and iconic.  Whilst it is uncertain as to what they encountered, some of the effects are very much physical and measurable.  Was it extra-terrestrials or is that interpretation influenced by the earlier UFO sighting by Betty's sister?  Regardless of the nature of events, the recollections of the Hills set the standard for much of what is now commonly understood to be elements of close encounters of the fourth kind!
