While public schools cannot require devotional use of the Bible, academic study of the book is allowed. However, political and legal considerations often make discussions of the Bible either impossible or uncomfortable. Dr. Marie Wachlin, nationally recognized for her biblical literacy research, looks at the Bible as a piece of classroom literature.
