Today’s reading from Proverbs 16–18 and 2 Corinthians 6 invites us to reflect on what forms us when life becomes difficult. Both passages remind us that faithfulness develops over time as we learn to walk with wisdom, remain aware of what is happening within us, and trust God when circumstances are not easy.
In Proverbs 16–18, wisdom is formed through the ordinary rhythms of life: our words, decisions, relationships, humility, and willingness to let God direct our steps. These chapters remind us that obedience becomes part of our identity through repeated choices made day after day, especially when pride, conflict, or pressure might pull us in another direction.
In 2 Corinthians 6, Paul describes a life of calling lived under tremendous pressure. Afflictions, hardships, sleepless nights, criticism, sorrow, and opposition did not remove his calling. Instead, they became places where endurance, patience, genuine love, and dependence on God were continually being formed within him.
Together, these passages invite us to notice how we respond when life pushes against us. They ask us to consider whether hardship has begun defining our view of God and ourselves, or whether we can remain present long enough to see that even difficult seasons can become places where steady faithfulness is formed.
