  • AI Isn't Firing You. It's Doing Something Else.

Got something to say to this podcast? Send a voicemail, and you might hear yourself on the next episode!

AI isn't firing people. It's quietly not hiring them. Almost four years after ChatGPT, the measured data tells a very different story from the headlines.

In this episode of The Big Picture, I separate what's been PREDICTED from what's actually been MEASURED. What did "300 million jobs" really mean? Why are radiologists in short supply, ten years after Geoffrey Hinton said to stop training them? And why are 22-25-year-olds in AI-exposed jobs the group that's actually feeling it? We look at history (ATMs, telephone operators, spreadsheets, translators), check in on New Zealand and Australia, and finish with a six-question test you can run on your own job. ⏱️

    For each one, ask:

    1. Is it done entirely on a screen?

    2. Does it need hands, a body, or being with people?

    3. Is it clean (a clear right answer) or messy (a judgement call)?

    4. Does AI replace you on it, or make you better?

    5. Does AI make your skill rarer, or let anyone do it?

    6. When it goes wrong, is a human accountable?

Bonus: are you early in your career?

  • I Haven’t Worn Matching Socks Since Year 5. Here’s Why.

Got something to say to this podcast? Send a voicemail, and you might hear yourself on the next episode!

90% of the time, my socks don't match. And it all started one morning in Year 5, standing at the front of the school assembly line.

In this Episode, I go back to that morning and ask a simple question: was that moment the reason I wear odd socks today, or is it just a story I tell myself? Along the way we look at the psychology of memory, shame, peer pressure and identity, and what it really means to be yourself in a crowd. If you've ever been the kid standing at the front, this one is for you.

  • How to Turn an Idea Into a Real Business | 3 Simple Frameworks - The Big Picture

Got something to say to this podcast? Send a voicemail, and you might hear yourself on the next episode!

Have a business idea but don't know where to start?

In this episode of The Big Picture, I break down three simple frameworks that can help you turn an idea into a business. We use a simple beach coffee cart example to look at:

☕ Business Model - What problem are you solving, who are you solving it for, what are you offering, and how will the business make money?

👣 Customer Journey - How does someone discover your business, decide to buy, experience your service, and eventually become a regular customer?

📣 Marketing Strategy - How can you use the 5Ps: Product, Price, Place, Promotion and People to reach the right customers and give them a reason to choose you?

The goal isn't to give you a perfect formula for starting a business. These frameworks are simply tools to help you ask better questions and see the bigger picture. If you're a business owner, thinking about starting a business, or simply interested in how businesses are built, I hope you find this conversation useful.

If you enjoyed the video, like, comment and subscribe to The Big Picture. I'd also love to hear what you think and what topics you'd like me to explore next.

  • I Thought I needed to be someone else I The Big Picture

Got something to say to this podcast? Send a voicemail, and you might hear yourself on the next episode!

I spent a year studying leadership because I thought I needed to become a different person.

More confident. More charismatic. Better at speaking. Better at handling difficult conversations.

But somewhere along the way, I realised I might have been asking the wrong question.

Instead of asking, “What do I need to become?”, I started asking, “What do I already have?”

This video is about what I discovered through my MBA leadership journey, strengths, self-awareness, purpose, practice, and the uncomfortable process of seeing yourself through other people's eyes.

Maybe becoming a better leader isn't about becoming someone else.

Maybe it's about understanding who you already are and choosing to use your strengths more intentionally.

This is part of my journey through my MBA, leadership, business, and personal growth.

What is one strength you already have that you could use more intentionally this week?

  • You don’t know the whole story

Got something to say to this podcast? Send a voicemail, and you might hear yourself on the next episode!

We’re often quick to decide what kind of person someone is.

    Rude. Lazy. Selfish. Arrogant. Difficult.

But what if we’re judging someone from the outside without knowing the story happening on the inside?

In this video, I explore why our first impressions can be misleading, why we give ourselves more context than we give other people, and how easily we can mistake a small piece of information for the whole story.

The same idea applies beyond people to social media, news, work, and the way we understand the world around us.

Because sometimes, we don’t need a completely different answer.

We just need a little more of the story.

    This is The Big Picture.
