"The Bikeriders' Review: A Beautiful Journey to Nowhere"

Listen Later

Comer trails far behind Hardy, who reaches sharply for the complexities swimming inside Johnny. Her Midwest accent isn't the only thing that makes her seem self-conscious; she also continues to be a caricature, detracting from the poignancy of several passages with her mere existence. Again, the flimsy conception of her character doesn't help. Too few scenes feature Kathy and Benny together; what is their marital status exactly? There is also the underwritten presence of the Vietnam War. Even while there are quickly enough veterans who have turned into bikers to turn this pack's feel-good homosocial affection into a criminal organization, the war itself is seldom discussed on radio or television.
