Is “God helps those who help themselves” actually in the Bible? It isn’t, and neither is “cleanliness is next to godliness.” Pastors Bill and Lynne Themelaras talk about the sayings people think come from Scripture, and why reading the Bible for yourself is the best protection against false teaching.
They share how to read the Bible in context, why a daily devotional is a good start but not enough, and the simple SOAP method anyone can use to go deeper, from a five-year-old to someone in their 90s.

In one survey, over two-thirds of born-again believers couldn't name essential truths of their own faith. So what does a Christian actually believe, and why?
Bill and Lynne open their series on the essentials of the Christian faith with Acts 2:42 and 2 Peter 1: the apostles' teaching, fellowship, breaking of bread, and prayer. Then they lay out what's coming in the series: the Trinity, studying the Word, fasting and the many kinds of prayer, thankfulness, baptism and communion, generosity and servanthood, spiritual gifts, worship as a lifestyle, forgiveness, deliverance, unity (which isn't uniformity), and being a witness through your testimony.
