In this episode I interview my good friend Gary Gerst, who got me started on my Birkie journey. Gary shares stories of his first Birkie, a helpful Norwegian, and wool knicker envy. In 2025 he is skiing his 45th Birkie from wave 35.
Gary has a great perspective on what it takes to finish the Birkie and how his priorities have changed over the years. He also shares some of his successes and struggles over the years. Please enjoy his reflections about living the Birkie life all year round.
Our inspirational song:
Da Juchitzer by Hubert von Guisern (if the link doesn't work - look it up - its worth at least one listen)

Welcome to the Birch Legacies podcast. We are sharing stories celebrating the motivation, the perserverence, and the lifestyle choices necessary to reach the status of Birchlegger - that is, skiers who have completed 20 or more Birkies, Korteloppets, or a combination of both. We would love to hear from Birchleggers young and old (that's you!) who have a story to tell about what keeps them coming back year after year.
