In today's session of our Advent readings we come to the birth of John in Luke 1:57-66. There is a bit of comedy in his birth because of the way the priesthood as well as the community responded to it! Certainly the community and family of Elizabeth were rejoicing with her that her reproach was finally gone and she was able to survive the birthing process and now has a son, but she survived and her son has come into the world! This freaked everybody out!!! That Zechariah couldn't talk didn't mean he couldn't hear (and I can only imagine just how much he was listening to over the last 9 months!!!). instead of simply asking Zechariah what he was going to name his child, they wrote it down as though they figured he couldn't hear!!! There are so many funny things that happen at John's birth, many that apply to us in this modern time, and so we shall try to capture them in this session today with Pastor J so hold on tight!!!
