A creator recently shared a story about a “social experiment” she conducted with her friends. She invited about 25 women to celebrate her 35th birthday with a destination trip and was devastated when most didn’t respond.

Her conclusion was that women are only celebrated when they get married or have children. She’s not wrong, of course, but I’m not sure that explains the disappointing response to her invitation.

In this video, I Iook at the expectations we place on adult friendships, the realities of travel and finances, and why invitations that feel like tests often lead people to disengage. Sometimes what feels like rejection is really a mismatch between expectations and reality.
