In this chapter of The Blue Castle, Barney and Valancy discuss their future together. Valancy is hesitant in accepting Barney's proposal as she is not sure if she is fit for his lifestyle. Barney reassures her that she will not have to live the life of a society woman, but rather they will have a little house in the countryside near Montreal, and spend their summers at Mistawis. He also promises to show her the beauty of the world.
