Ned Tower hires Spade to investigate his sister's fiance, Jefferson Davies Calhoon. With three previous ex-wives who each never lived past their honeymoons, Calhoon collected on their insurance policies and has talked his current fiancee into take out a $100,000 life insurance policy in his favour.

Spade must prove Calhoon's guilt before it's too late.
