I am honored to be speaking with breast surgical oncologist and plastic surgeon, Dr. Anne Peled. Dr. Peled comes from a long line of breast specialists, and was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 37 despite being a vegan marathon runner. 

We discuss the struggles she faced as a patient, why she chose lumpectomy, & how that led her to develop the sensation preserving mastectomy with her husband, Dr. Ziv Peled (also a plastic surgeon). It was an absolute honor speaking with Dr. Daniel Kopans, a pioneer in the field of breast imaging, about the importance of breast cancer screening for women in their 40s. Dr. Kopans has dedicated his career to improving mammography technology and has become one of the most outspoken defenders for breast cancer screening in young women.

In this conversation, we discuss how 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵𝘆 𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝟰𝟬 𝘀𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀. (and why 50 is a made up number). He also breaks down myths over radiation risk, overdiagnosis, and the future breast imaging. 

Dr. Kopans helped create the breast imaging subspecialty in the 1970s and is the founder of the Breast Imaging Division. Massachusetts General Hospital. Amongst his many accolades, he helped invent digital breast tomosynthesis, the needle localization procedure which made breast conservation therapy possible, and also wrote the book on breast imaging. 

This is an incredibly important and informative conversation, and you’ll understand breast cancer screening controversies (and why he’s the G.O.A.T. 🐐)

It was our honor to speak with US Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz about her breast cancer and BRCA2+ diagnosis at age 41 while a member of Congress, and how she has turned her breast cancer diagnosis into purpose. 🎀

Representative Wasserman Schultz has become a leading congressional champion for the cancer advocacy community, and has passed countless bills to help promote early cancer detection and education in young women, increase accessibility for genetic screening, and improve access to cancer survivorship care services. 🙌

She shares how the self-breast exam saved her life, the weight of a genetic mutation on a family, and how the notion of Tikkun Olam lead to her political career. 🤩
