In this chapter, Esther boldly pleads for the lives of her people. With Haman dead, Mordecai is elevated to the highest position of power in the palace, and all of Haman’s wealth and property are placed into his hands. Armed with the king’s signet ring, a new and irreversible decree is sent throughout the empire: on March 7, every Jew is authorized to unite, rise up, and defend themselves against any person—of any nation or province—who dares to attack them, their wives, their children, or their land.
