I Became a Widow at 33. The Business I Built Gave Me the Freedom to Grieve.

I don't even know how to start this episode, honestly.

Five months ago, I lost my husband to suicide. At 33 years old, I became a widow and a mother of two little girls navigating a life I never imagined we'd have.

And this is my first episode back.

There are parts of my story I'm not ready to share. Parts I'm still trying to understand. And parts that belong to my children, not the internet.

But I did want to come back and talk about something I've spent the last decade teaching women.

Building a business that gives you the freedom to actually LIVE your life. Even when life is fucking brutal.

Over the last five months, I've taken time away from my business. I've moved, bought a home, restructured my team, navigated things I never thought I'd have to navigate & leaned on the women and community I've spent years building.

And through all of it, Breadwinner Energy® has continued to operate, grow & serve our clients.

Holy shit. We actually built something here.

For years, I've talked about time freedom, financial independence, business ownership, relationships & building something beyond yourself.

I understood why those things mattered before.

But I understand them in a completely different way now.

In this episode, I'm sharing what these last five months have looked like, how grief has changed my relationship with money, ambition & motherhood, and why building a sustainable business is about so much more than making another dollar.

In this episode, Tay sits down with hypnotherapist Morgan Zack for a raw, unfiltered conversation on subconscious healing, trauma, addiction, and why mindset work alone is not enough for true transformation.

This is about what happens when women realize they’ve been trying to think their way out of wounds that were never created in the conscious mind in the first place.

Morgan shares her deeply personal story of growing up in chaos, addiction, survival mode, and eventual rock bottom—and how it led her into the world of hypnotherapy and subconscious reprogramming.

Morgan is a life coach, a certified NGH Hypnotist, and a SOM mindfulness practitioner. Morgan’s main focus is to help empower her clients from feeling like they are a victim of their own life to feeling empowered, happy, and creating the life of their dreams. Morgan also has a deep, compassionate understanding of addiction, and through her own journey to sobriety feels it’s her calling in life to show others they can reclaim their lives as well. 

Morgan struggled with addiction and mental health for 20 years of her life. She sought out the traditional modalities of help; from psychiatrists, psychologists, talk therapists to  NA and AA and yet  never found any way out of feeling depressed, anxious and fully addicted to many substances. After many years of frustration of being put on and off of medications, and talking through her problems and never finding resolve, she turned to a mentor who worked with alternative healing modalities. Through working with this mentor she grew an understanding of the parasympathetic nervous system, breathing techniques, and meditation. By learning these techniques Morgan was able to naturally calm herself down enough. She eventually was able to feel her built up emotions safely which then allowed her to release many years of built up feelings and trauma. 

Morgan was able to become sober and eventually come off of all medications and fully be herself again. She later landed into using hypnosis to help heal any left over limiting beliefs she had about gaining the life she wanted; and she has never looked back since. 

Together, Tay and Morgan break down why so many high-achieving women feel stuck even after doing all the therapy, coaching, journaling, and mindset work… and what actually changes the game at the root level.

Hustle, struggle, and sacrifice have been glorified for generations. it’s a colonial inheritance. Decolonizing your business means allowing yourself to rest, to build wealth in a way that feels good, and to stop treating burnout as proof that you’re doing it right.

3. Disconnection from Intuition and Cultural Roots

Systems like organized religion and Western education were designed to make women distrust their own inner knowing. Your intuition, your cultural wisdom, your ancestral practices — these are not “woo.” They are your competitive advantage and the foundation of your medicine.

4. Over-Giving

If you’re over-delivering, over-explaining, and doing emotional labor for your clients — that’s not leadership. That’s codependency. Decolonizing your business means teaching your clients to be empowered, not dependent. It means charging for your energy, not just your time.

5. Limited Access to Wealth and Power

Women of color have been historically excluded from wealth, ownership, and leadership. Decolonizing your business means rewriting your relationship with money, power, and leadership — and building wealth from a place of truth rather than trauma.
