There is something really amazing going on: strangers are pitching in to take care of strangers, resulting in literally millions of dollars being donated to GoFundMes.
It’s an incredible "hopecore" side of the internet, but it’s also leaving a lot of people asking: Why does it fall on strangers to take care of people in need when we are taxed so heavily every month? And why are so many of these people, who spent decades paying into Social Security, still relying on the generosity of strangers instead of the system they were told would take care of them?
