The young grasshoppers returns to review a piece of historical fiction. Fascinated with the Netflix series, Ol' Saint Nick came down his chimney one cold Michigan eve and gifted Spangar with the very book the series spawned from. Exploring and spoiling only the main character's narrative, Spangar and Danny discuss the tale of Utred, and how his plot to regain his lost land fit into the insane history of eighth century England. Danes, Catholics, swords, and shields, the author flaunted an extensive historical knowledge of battle and brutality. But, does the book hold up and what mistakes were made while writing? Having watched the first half of the first season (the time period the book covered), Danny also chimed in with his favorite excerpts and has Spangar judge the media transition. Don't forget a ton of laughs between the two cousins!
Tune in every Tuesday for a new episode of The Broken Shelf.
