Allen and Danny take a break from the fantasy and history to
review the first traditional mystery novel for The Broken Shelf. Badly masked by her pseudonym, Robert Galbraith, J K Rowling ventured beyond the wall of "Hogwarts" to construct a thrill murder mystery stacked with dynamic dialogue and Holmsian misdirection. Baffled by the interwoven complexities of the characters and dialogue centric narrative, Allen discloses why Galbraith's detective makes a mark in the genre. Though, to be fair, Allen does argue against Rowling's redundant character development and flawed system of interpersonal relationships. Perhaps it's a set-up for the larger narrative whole? Also, because it's impossible not to, the duo debated a few similarities between "Potter" and "Cormoran Strike". Don't forget the puns and laughs!
Tune in every Tuesday for a new episode of The Broken Shelf.
