How can this episode possibly be so short when it's a history review? Well, for starters it was a very rudimentary, short book - only about one hundred pages. However, it was jammed packed with information and photographs that exemplified the subject of religious warfare in the late 11th century. The subject is also one of Danny's favorite. Byzantium history is criminally fringe within the discipline, and Danny explores some of the issues with access to materials and how well the author presented them. Danny also compares some of the geopolitical issues with a more infamous episode in history: The Armenian Genocide. If you don't know about pre-crusade Turkey, or even the Byzantium Empire, this is the podcast for you!
