Feeling a lull before a few larger reviews, Danny continues with Benedict Jacka's magically infused urban fantasy series "Alex Verus". And he wasn't disappointed: Jacka made all of the right changes to his magical combat, lore, narrative, and most important, characters. However, there was still a lingering shadow as Danny discusses the weakness of the urban fantasy genre when it comes to developing worth while villains. Likewise, Danny struggles with a growing pet-peeve about protagonists making idiotic choices for the sake of unwarranted tension. And yes, to get the joke out of the way: Alex does have very special skills, and he will find you, in your present or your future.
Tune in every Tuesday for a new episode of The Broken Shelf.
