The Broken Shelf 116: Chosen

[Warning] This episode contains explicit language and explicit themes. Listener discretion is advised.
A series hits its stride when the theme of consequences develops. Urban fantasy is an interesting genre that exists parallel to ours and therefore the themes can at times read mundanely, but eventually there comes a times when the 'fantasy' part takes over and turns the story up to eleven. But, there are times when the magic and 'fantasy' elements are used to extrapolate the mundane into something extraordinary. That's what choices are. What did the protagonist of Benedict Jacka do in the past? This is the narrative Danny has been waiting for and Jacka doesn't stop at just fixing his sliding protagonist: magic, combat, interpersonal relationships, and pace. This novel will define the future of the 'Verus' universe, and Danny covers the positives and negatives.
