Tackling a unique topic in a forgotten era of history, Spangar delves deep into a subject that far too few Americans know anything about, including Danny. North Korea has been a contemporary topic under many presidential administrations (the war is technically still going...) but recently under the Trump Administration it has grown in renown. This is because of digital access and a growth of the ability to report up-to-date data but perhaps more influential is the stream of North Korean refugees finally talking about their lives behind the curtain. An influential reporter turns influential non-fiction author and gives voice to the people of North Korea through a collection of harrowing interviews about a massive famine that decimated the population in the 90's. Her voice and the structure and pace of the book have left an influence on Spangar's thoughts and provoked one grand conversation between the cousins. Learn, laugh, share some time with these two fools of literature!
