Confrontation with one's favorite author can be disappointing and compelling. To see where they chose to go and to try and remove yourself from judgment as the the work does not belong to you, but to them and a larger audience. Decorated with numerous awards and celebrated as a wonder high fantasy, and yet Danny can't see it. This middle book was a challenge for him and although he can see where a lot of the praise comes from he can't help but feel like there is another half that is full of darkness. And to an extent that is slightly literal. Danny explains why the book is divide in numerous ways: first vs. second half; ancillary characters vs. protagonists; established world vs. new world building; exposition vs. dialogue; and female vs. male. Relatively little, at least to Danny, works in Harmony in this second book and he does his best to articulate why one of his favorite authors couldn't hold his attention.
