Beyond The Mud

The Bully: Journal Entry 13

Listen Later

Today’s episode is the hardest one I’ve ever shared. It’s the story of my daughter’s battle with relentless bullying—and my own failure to protect her. For years, she was tormented by cruel kids, and I did what I thought was enough. I called the schools, had meetings, involved the police. But nothing stopped the cruelty. It only got worse.
It all hit a breaking point when those kids dug into her past, found a picture of her late mother, and photoshopped her into a casket. That moment shattered me. And while she was enduring that kind of pain, I wasn’t there for her. I was drowning in my own spiral of alcohol and drugs, letting the internet and her phone raise her while I was checked out.
This episode isn’t just about the bullies—it’s about me, the father who missed the signs, who let his own darkness blind him to his daughter’s suffering. But now, I’m owning my failure. I’m fighting to be the father she needs. It’s too late to change the past, but it’s not too late to fight for her future.
I hope by sharing this, it will help others reflect on their own journeys and confront their blind spots before it’s too late.
