Publisher's Summary:
They call the ancient hills of Jerusalem the butcher's theater. Here, upon this bloodstained stage, a faceless killer performs his violent specialty: The first to die brutally is a fifteen-year-old girl. She is drained of blood, then carefully bathed and shrouded in white. Precisely one week later, a second victim is found. From the sacred Wailing Wall to the monasteries where dark secrets are cloistered, from black-clad bedouin enclaves to labyrinthine midnight alleys, veteran police inspector Daniel Sharavi and his crack team plunge deep into a city simmering with religious and political passions to hunt for a murderer whos insatiable taste for young women could destroy the delicate balance on which Jerusalem's very survival depends.
A brilliant novel by a master of the genre, a vivid look at the tortured complexities of a psychopath's mind, a rich evocation of a city steeped in history -- this, and more, is The Butcher's Theater.

Holds you until the last page.
A unique stand-alone novel from Jonathan Kellerman. This novel grabs you and holds you from the beginning. A must read for readers of mystery/detective novels.
I chose this book because it is an early work by Kellerman and not part of his Dr. Alex Delaware series. The character in "The Butcher's Theater" is as smart as Alex Delaware but the book offers more suspense and action.
A must read.
Language Barrier
I have read most of Kellerman's novels and found this one different. The story line was complicated and made more so by the unexplained Hebrew words, which even in context were not decipherable. Perhaps he wrote this for a Jewish targeted market.Normally I would look up an unfamiliar word or phrase while reading but gave up in this case as there were too many.Stumbling along over Hebrew words made this novel a long and tedious read.

An early (Jonathan) Kellerman and one of his best. Perfectly plotted and written with an extraordinary eye for the cultural differences in the melting pot of Israel. One of the best aspects of this novel is the careful development of a cast of disparate characters, not to mention a plot that is impossible to second guess as regards the ultimate villain. Engrossing and hits all the right notes.
Interesting locale
An entertaining read and a historical locale but, book is overly long. It is filled with phrases that requires the reader to continually stop and look up the various ranks of the multitude of characters involved in the story. If you are already a fan of this author you will probably enjoy it. If you are looking for fast action you may struggle with this.
Butcher's Theater Fails to Keep this Arizonan's Interest
Butcher's Theater is a complicated. detailed story about a sadistic killer of young women.
