The Butterbox Babies: The Ideal Maternity Home

Listen Later

The Ideal Maternity Home was opened by Lila and William Young in the 1920’s as a way to offer discreet birthing and adoption for unwed mothers and widows. But, greed got the best of them and they became more interested in making profits than offering quality healthcare. In this episode we’ll talk about the illegal adoption business they were running, how they dealt with unmarketable babies, and why their victims were known as The Butterbox Babies. Listen to hear this heartbreaking story.
